As far as I can tell, this is exactly the same as "Campho-Phenique Antiseptic Gel" (on the Bayer website, ingredients are the same). This is by far my favorite remedy for scrapes, bug bites, hangnails and minor cat scratches. And it does a good job treating pain from cold sores. Be warned, it will sting like mad for about 30 seconds when first applied, but the pain quickly fades! I keep an extra tube in my travel bag and another at work, to treat everyday scrapes.
I have suffered cold sores for years now, and have got used to just waiting for them to go. I have tried many products, but to no avail. My freind passed me this cream, and what usually takes 8 to 10 days to clear was gone in 5. Well chuffed with the results.
This product does not even TOUCH the prescription medications. Of course, it`s about 1/16th the price, but it is not worth even the small amount it costs. It did not reduce the length of time my cold sore was present, nor did it do much to relieve the symptoms. It has a medicinal smell that is deceiving. It literally smells like it`s working when it is not.
WOW!!! I didn`t think that what was on my lip was a cold sore; it was just a dry patch on my lip, it would swell, tingle, and itch every once in a while. I just tried to keep it oiled, but it had stayed there since August. I finally decided to try Abreva, and absolutely nothing happened. I then gave Campho-phenique a try, and noticed it drying out that very evening. It was completely gone in three days. I love this product, and would recommend trying this first before other products.
I realized I had my first cold sore too late for the Abreva I bought to work its magic. I was already seven days into an outbreak. My lip just dried up so bad that it felt worse than before I used the Abreva. So I bought the campho-phenique to help deal with the pain and itching. It worked great. And I sure did have a lot of pain and itching. My whole top lip became one giant cold sore. I am thankful that it did what it promised. I would give this 5 stars, but I don`t have any other medicine to compare it to, since this is the first one I`ve bought.
This is the only medicine that I have found which actually really helps. It takes off three to four days of healing time, and for me that makes a huge difference! I know there is also campho phenique for scab relief, but I haven`t been able to find it yet. If I do, I am going to try that out as well!
This is a wonderful product for cold sore relief. I have suffered with cold sore all my life and have tried all the OTC products. I also have taken prescription medication for cold sores and Campho-phenique really does the job in drying out the worst of breakouts. It also soothes the itches that cold sore cause. Like other reviewers said, if you apply it in the beginning stages of the breakout, Campho will likely stop it before it starts. I would give this product 10 stars if I could.
I have tried ALL of the major brands of cold sore remedies, always looking for the one that will alleviate my cold sores faster. I must say THIS IS IT! Awesome product! Can`t believe that products I paid nearly three times as much for couldn`t come close.
Great product. When I feel a cold sore is starting in the 1st stage, I immediately get my Campho-phenique out and 95% of the time it will get rid of it before the sore advances. It`s a must have item. Another tip is to wash your lips with soap and warm water to help prevent bacteria build up.
