This is the best hair setter ever made except for the plastic cover. I have used them all my life. I have long thick hair & the ION makes your hair like silk & so soft & my curls last. I get compliments all the time. I also have 2 of the small travel setters & they work pretty well. I gave it a 4 because of the plastic cover which is cheap. I only had my 2nd hair setter a couple months and someone bumped it while the cover was open & it broke in several pieces so this is my 3rd purchase (man, I will have to build a fence around it!!) Yea I could still use it, but the cover is in pieces so it would be a pain each time. I read that someone uses the Conair Super Clips. I just ordered them today too. The wire ones work, but these look like they will work a lot better.
Love it, Love it! I am getting a second one so I can add in smaller curlers for different styles and for backup (don`t want to be without EVER!). Also, for those of you having trouble with slipping, I NEVER use the clips. I have ordered Conair Super Clips that keep the curlers IN PLACE for SURE, including those slippery travel curlers! THEY WORK!
The best hot curlers I`ve ever had. I bought a travel version of similar ones (but not ion shine) & they weren`t nearly as good. My hair is so shiny & smooth! Really awesome product.
The only reason I give this two stars is it might work for someone who has naturally wavy hair before curling it. If you have silk-like, stick straight hair (like mine) this set will NOT work. Reason? The rollers are flocked & flocked rollers do not work on stick straight hair. They don`t create a strong curl that lasts with that hair type - flocked rollers are too gentle because silk straight hair usually has a thick cuticle that is hard to get through. You need rollers that are not flocked. Revlon makes a non-flocked set, as does Vidal Sassoon and Conair. Other than that, the clips with this set are standard and they work fine to keep the roller in place if you know what you are doing. I have used hot rollers for years and years, and it is getting harder and harder to find non-flocked sets.
I like these rollers, and am on my second set, and am about to get a third. The set of clips that came with the first set were annoying, but the second set were just wire ones, and they were better. You do have to watch that the heated metal parts of the roller do not touch your skin, which for me are only the rollers near the forehead. But otherwise they are as comfy as possible, and they do give a nice set. My problem with these rollers is that the lid of the whole units cracks after a while. That is why I am getting my third set!
I purchased this 6 weeks ago. It`s a nice product- heats fast, stays hot, and gives very nice smooth long lasting curls/waves. The clips (while they can droop in some areas) are best mastered with placing closer to the scalp or experimenting until you find a firm grip and use that contintuously. I`ve been using hot rollers for over 20 years and think this is one of the best. I`d lkke to see a small (very small) travel size developed for a reasonable price.
I own this set. It is my very first set of hot curlers. I have no experience with them, but I found this set to be very easy to use. I love the clips! I have NO IDEA of why some here are complaining about the clips. They are easy to figure out and use. You wouldn`t even have to read the instructions to know that you just clamp the darned things on the roller in order to hold the roller on your hair. I have no problem with the rollers staying in with the clips. Also, they leave my hair full of body....just what I was wanting. Very nice, bouncy curls.
These curlers are *okay*. The clips leave a kink in your hair if you aren`t careful, but the rollers themselves are great. Heats up pretty fast, but there`s a weird clicking sound that comes with mine.
This is just what I needed to get the bounce back into my natural curls without having to wash and re-style everyday! I use a light styling spray, put the rollers in and by the time I`m finished with my makeup, my hair is ready to go and looks great. They do heat up quickly and I have had no problem operating the switch or using the clips. I also like that additional rollers can be ordered should you need them. Maybe not top of the line, but they are a good product at a good price.
Heats up quickly and the clips are super easy to use once you figure them out, which takes about a minute. Different from previous types, but they work great and don`t feel like they`re pinching your head.
1) The clips are huge and really hard to handle. It takes two hands to open the clip since the ends are pointy and not easy to grab and open with one hand. Remember, it takes two hands to put the roller in and then one hand to get the clip. This was one of my most frustrating points. 2) The on/off switch requires two hands as well. One needs to hold onto the set while turning on or off. This should be easy to turn on/off with one hand. 3) Portability for travel is not well thought out. The cord should wrap to keep the set shut, instead the opening of the set is in the middle and when wrapping cord. Also, the giant clips require a bag -- pretty unwieldy. 4) If the roller`s opening on the side rests against the scalp, one gets the high heat and concern of burning the scalp. I honestly feel that very little, if any, usability testing was done on this product.
I have never owned hot rollers, but decided to give it a try. I have thick, healthy, wavy hair. I usually dry and iron it straight, but wanted some oomph! These things were easy to use and gave me the desired look I wanted. I recommend this product, especially for beginners like me. Also try a heat-protecting product with hold like Biolage Thermal-Active setting spray. Your style will hold better.
I can`t say how well these rollers work, because I couldn`t get them to stay in my hair, they kept falling out. The clips did not keep the rollers in.
This appliance is incredible. I used it on dry, clean hair. I put in a small amount of styling mousse in my hair (on the ends). I put the hair setter on, and it heated up in 2 minutes. (Yes I timed it). :) I put the rollers in, and took them out about 5 minutes later. The curls are terrific. I put a small spritz of hair spray, and my curls lasted all day and night. Worth every penny!
I am getting rid of these! The rollers are ok, but the clips are useless, they do not hold your hair and the roller falls down. Bad job! Make better clips.
