    I had two of these humidifiers for my kids, and after 3 months each, they began to get noisy. I called the Hunter and they told me to clean the machine every other day! So much for "maintenance free". Do not buy this machine if you want a hassle.
    Do not buy this item. Corrosion in the unit and "Perma-wick" filter started before it was a year old. Now the filter is falling apart with mold and mildew which I am allergic to and the humidistat is not working, at least cannot get it up past 34%. I`ve had it less than 3 years and don`t know how or even if I can get my money back. It is too heavy to carry and I have difficulty moving around due to age and disability. I thought Hunter was a good dependable brand. Now I am so disappointed.
    I have no problem with the functioning of the item. My complaint is with the design because it fills from the bottom; it must be taken to the water source and then returned to the machine. 3 1/2 gallons of water weighs an awful lot, and at my age of 80, I find this a very difficult chore. If it filled from the top, it could be filled with a pitcher, which would be much easier.
