Lysine has not been proven to reduce the occurrence of cold sores, but I have been taking 1000mg a day for ~18 months, and have not had a cold sore during that time. I used to get 2-3 a year. Maybe they are diminishing with age (I?m 40). Like others, I have tried everything OTC, prescription, stress reduction, etc. with no noticeable effects.
